RECONCILING YOUR ROOFING QUOTE TO INCLUDE ALL NEEDED ITEMS

If the quote for your new roof that you are first given isn’t comprehensive, simply ask the Roofing Company to provide you with a more detailed and comprehensive quote. If they ask for information about what you are asking for, tell them you “want to see specifics about needed materials, material handling, scope of work, adherence to code, etc. That you want every important detail enumerated in the quote.”

It is very, very unlikely that the quote you receive from the Roofing Company will have much of a breakdown on materials, scope of work, performance, how damages are handled, etc.

I’ll note again, that there should not be any handwritten notes on the quote, and no areas crossed out. The quote should be cleanly typed, and look professional.

To see the list of items you should include, I wrote an article for you on that here: Items to make sure are included in Roofing Quote / Contract.

The quote from the Roofing Company should be sent to you in PDF format, and NOT a scan of a paper document, but an actual PRINT TO PDF document.

Once you receive the updated quote, you can begin the process of getting everything you deem important to be listed.

Example One: Installation done 100% in adherence of local building codes.

If the quote does not include a statement that installation will be done in 100% adherence of applicable building codes, ask the salesperson to update the quote with a statement to that effect.

The actions of the salesperson will provide insight as to the mindset of the company. If this is quickly added, and a new quote is sent to you with this included, great.

If there is push-back, ask yourself why?

Example Two: Statement that shingles will NOT be bent over the ridge.

If the quote does not include a statement that “No shingles will be bent over the ridge, in accordance with Manufacturer guidelines”, ask this to be added.

Again, the reaction and actions by the salesperson will provide insight.

Example Three: Statement that the Roofing System ventilation – Soffit (intake) and Exit Venting are calculated and guaranteed to be correct after new roof is installed.

Again, ask for this to be added unless it already is.

If all three of these are added without push-back, let the Salesperson know you have a list, and then send over all of the items on your list. Which, should really be all of the ones I’ve provided. If you have some that I don’t have listed, please send them to me via email. I want this list to be comprehensive.

Once the Quote is complete, including all needed items, you are on your way to a great new roof.
