How to get a Good New roof?
The challenge in getting a good roof install – isn’t a technical issue.
It’s a human nature issue.
Think about it. What is YOUR experience with human nature?
Learn why understanding human nature is key to getting a good roof.
Your concerns are: “Is my new roof going to be installed correctly, how will it look, will it leak, and how much will it cost me?“.
These are very important questions.
The answers to these questions are very complex.
The underlying problem is human nature. Keep this in mind in every interaction, and your chance of success is much greater.
On the face of it, every Roofing Company tells you YOUR ROOF will be installed correctly, it will look great, it won’t leak, and it will be a great price!
HOWEVER:
Your new roof might not leak. This does not mean it was installed correctly.
Your new roof might not look great, but that doesn’t mean it will leak.
Your new roof might be cheap, it might be expensive – that doesn’t mean it was installed correctly, or that it won’t leak.
You might be very fortunate. YOUR new roof might be installed perfectly, looks great, doesn’t leak, and the experience was amazing.
Is that the norm?
Absolutely, there are extremely amazing Roofing Companies out there.
But, how do you determine if you are dealing with a champ, or a chump?
You, yes you, must be informed. YOU must ask good questions. YOU must verify.
Consider The Following:
I asked Grok (A.I): “How many residential roofing companies in the USA?”
Grok tells me: “Approximately 100,000 to 102,000 roofing companies operate in the United States as of early 2026, with the vast majority focusing on or including residential roofing.“
Asking Grok: “How many new shingle roofs each year in the USA?”
Grok tells me: “Approximately 4 to 5 million new shingle roofs are installed annually in the USA.
This figure primarily reflects replacements (re-roofing), which account for over 80-90% of all roofing projects, with new construction adding a smaller portion. Asphalt shingles dominate the market, used in roughly 80% of U.S. roofing projects.Industry sources, including RubyHome Luxury Real Estate (2025 data) and the National Roofing Contractors Association, estimate about 5 million roofs installed or replaced each year, with the vast majority being asphalt shingle roofs.
Asphalt shingles hold 70-80% market share in residential roofing, per reports from Home Innovation Research Labs and Freedonia Group.
Re-roofing drives demand due to the aging U.S. housing stock (many roofs reaching 20-30 year lifespans) and storm damage.“
Out of 100,000 Roofing Companies, how many do you think are just terrible? How many are just so-so, how many do you think are fantastic?
Fantastic means from beginning to end, all factors considered, (I’ll explain more on this further along), including evaluation, installation, cleanliness, and professionalism – are just done absolutely correct?
A real problem across the USA: New roofs that are installed terribly. (Not all, for sure – but a significant issue in the roofing industry.)
Too many new roofs are already leaking, but it doesn’t show. Not yet.
And how many new roofs are not even meeting the minimum code?
That new roof looks good from the ground (usually) – but many are a nightmare waiting to unfold.
